What is the training required to become a homeopath?

According the ECCH (European Council of Classical Homeopathy), the ICCH (International Council of Classical Homeopathy) and the SPHQ (Syndicat Professionnel d’Homeopathes du Quebec, the official representative association for the ICCH in Quebec: effective education in homeopathic practice takes a minimum of three years of full time study at a university or post-graduate level of study.  These associations emphasize the need of face to face, in classroom study and personal supervision in the form of apprenticeship as is provided in the homeopathy training program at the Montreal Institute of Classical Homeopathy in order to get a degree in Homeopathy.  See Program section: courses.

Does MICH training meet national or local training norms and standards?

The homeopathic training program at the Montreal Institute of Classical Homeopathy meets and surpasses the homeopathic requirements of the associations licensed to provide professional accreditation in Quebec, Canada, the United States, and Europe. For a full list of these associations and their requirements select the “Certification” or “Links” from the main menu for further details.

How many hours does the training involve?

The Montreal Institute of Classical Homeopathy diploma program is a three-year curriculum requiring students to attend on average two weekend seminars per month from October to June in Montreal. Students will be also be expected to participate in provings, the making of remedies, research, complementary studies, individual study and case-taking. These activities, plus the MICH guided-study plan, other complementary courses, and study and reading during the summer can take up to 1000 hours per year.

What languages are available? What if I speak French?

In 2009, Montreal Institute of Classical Homeopathy seminars will be offered in English. There will be some video cases in French.  The most important documentation has been translated into French. There will also be a "home group" consisting for Francophones where discussion, exercises and case supervision will be in French.  The MICH teachers are all bilingual (English and French) and explanations may be given in French, exams may be written in French, and French texts may be used by students for personal study.  One teacher is completely fluent in Spanish, another in Italian, and the third in Dutch as well.

Are there pre-requisite courses I should take for the training at M.I.C.H.?

The DHom designation requires sufficient pre-requisite or co-requisite training. Currently, MICH offers homeopathic training only, therefore, should you wish to have a degree in homeopathy and become an accredited homeopath with a professional association, you must fulfill additional course requirements as stipulated by the accrediting association. If you live in Montreal, the Institute NHC (see links) provides all the necessary training required to meet the professional training requirements (see certification and links) of the SPHQ. Select “Certification” from the main menu for a list of pertinent NHC courses.
